“Got Jesus?”
Getting connected to Jesus
It's really a much more important question than “Got milk?” Milk is beneficial for
good health, and strong bones and teeth. But Jesus is helpful in so many more ways!
In our daily life he’s good for love, joy, peace and hope.
He offers forgiveness of sins, a right relationship with God, and new life.
Jesus also gives us eternal salvation and life with
God forever! Do you want all these things that only Jesus can provide? Then you
need to get Jesus!
So, how do you “get” Jesus? You can’t go to the grocery store and buy him, like a quart
of milk. You can only get Jesus by faith.
Faith comes from knowing the Good News about Jesus Christ.
• He is the eternal Son of God who existed with the Father and the Spirit as one
God forever (John 1:1-2)
• He came into our world as a real human being so that he could take our place and
bear our sins. (Galatians 4:4-5)
• He lived the perfect, sinless life, which a holy God demands that each of us live,
but that none of us can live because of our sinful nature. (Hebrews 4:15)
• He willingly laid down his life on the cross as the sacrifice for our sins, to make us
right with God. (John 10:17-18)
• He died, was buried, and then rose again from the dead to prove that his sacrifice
was payment in full for the sins of the whole world. (Romans 4:25)
• Having finished his work on earth he returned to his home in heaven at God’s right
hand, where he now governs all things for the sake of those who
believe in him. (Ephesians 1:19b-22)
• He sent the Holy Spirit into the hearts of all true believers so that he could be
with us always. (John 14:16-18)
• He will come again to take us to be with him and his Father in heaven
forever. (John 14:1-3)
If you believe these things that the Bible teaches about Jesus are true, then
you can “get” Jesus, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that you’ve got him already.
In order to get Jesus, you must place your trust in him as your personal Savior and Lord.
This is not something you can do by your own reason or strength. You can only
do so by the power of God’s Holy Spirit at work in your heart and mind through the
Good News about Jesus. It is the Holy Spirit who creates faith in our hearts that
allows us to trust in Jesus. Then, our heart’s desire is to love him, serve him, and obey
him, to walk in his footsteps every day, and day by day to become more like Jesus in
the way we think and speak and act, as the Holy Spirit works in us to transform us into
the image of God’s own Son. Are you ready put your trust in Jesus? Then pray this prayer:
“Lord Jesus Christ, I confess that I have broken God’s Law and sinned
against your commands. I know that I deserve God’s anger and punishment.
I am truly sorry for my sins, and I thank you for paying my debt in full when you
died on the cross and rose again from the dead. Please forgive me, Lord Jesus, and
fill me with your Holy Spirit so that I may trust in you with all my heart. Draw me close
to you by your Spirit through your Word, so that with your power at work in
me, I can begin to be changed into your image. Amen.”
Having placed your trust in Jesus, it is important for you to seek a church home
where you can hear God’s Word and grow in faith, in fellowship with others who trust
in Jesus. We invite you to join us at The Lighthouse Church . We are eager to share
life in Jesus Christ with you!
